MULTIPACK

Multipack comes with washable menstrual pads of different sizes and this is very good, especially for women who are just starting the switch from disposable pads, so they can try using the different sizes available. Then just buy more washable pads of the size that they prefer later on.

Rovtop reusable sanitary pads are made of 4 layers design. The first layer, the one that touches the skin, is made of bamboo charcoal fiber for skin comfort and odor elimination; the middle layer is made up of 2 layers of microfiber for maximum absorbency, and the bottom layer is made up of a water-resistant layer to avoid leaks and spills.

2. BAMBAW WASHABLE MENSTRUAL PADS MIXFLOW PACK

The mixflow pads from Bambaw are made of 3 different fabrics. The top layer of the pads is made of bamboo charcoal fiber for skin comfort and for odor elimination; the middle layer is made of 2 microfiber layers for maximum absorbency; while the bottom layer is made of Polyurethane laminate (PUL) to prevent leaks and spills.

HEAVY FLOW/NIGHTTIME

The large and extra-large size reusable menstrual pads are very suitable for nighttime, heavy flow, and postpartum use. Other women find these sizes bulky and very long, so they usually use them when just staying inside the house.

I am a “large and extra-large” kind of girl when it comes to menstrual pads. My disposable pads before we’re all “nighttime” pads. I feel calm and safe from stains when I am wearing “nighttime” pads.

But I feel uncomfortable and worried when using “regular size” pads. I know, it might be psychological, too. But I prefer “nighttime” pads all the time to save me from the uneasy feeling.

5. THINK ECO ORGANIC REUSABLE NIGHT PADS PLUS (15″)

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07TJQY3WM&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=happyhome00e 20&language=en US

The pads are made of 6 layers of absorbent fabric with a waterproof layer to prevent leaks.

6. HEART FELT CHARCOAL REUSABLE MENSTRUAL PADS (12″)

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B077VTNZXM&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=happyhome00e 20&language=en US

The reusable pads also come with a double snap closure which easily wraps around and clips to most panties keeping the pad in place for maximum protection.

This double snap closure compensates for the lack of a wetbag since most washable menstrual pads come with only one snap closure.

7. BAMBAW HEAVY FLOW PACK

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B083SLGSVK&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=happyhome00e 20&language=en US

MEDIUM FLOW/DAYTIME

The small and medium sizes washable menstrual pads are shorter and thinner than the heavy flow/ nighttime pads. These pads are perfect for daytime use, especially if going out of the house since the pads are less bulky and less obvious, especially if wearing light-colored pants or skirts.

8. VIEDOUCE MEDIUM FLOW REUSABLE MENSTRUAL PADS (10″)

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B08CZMRCD2&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=happyhome00e 20&language=en US

9. HEART FELT CHARCOAL REUSABLE MENSTRUAL PADS (10″)

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00P7Q78Z2&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=happyhome00e 20&language=en US

This pack comes with 5 normal size (2.5 x 10 inches long) reusable menstrual pads, and it doesn’t come with a wetbag. But despite that, more than 1000 women left very good reviews about this pack. So, it must be very good.

The outer layer is made up of completely waterproof lamination fabric to ensure leak-free use for up to 10 hours. The middle is made up of 2 layers of microfiber pads for maximum absorption. While the top layer touching the intimate part is made of 100% charcoal bamboo for a hypoallergenic and naturally soft feel.

How To Choose The Right Washable Menstrual Pads

You’ve already read the best washable menstrual pads available above, but you still don’t know what to choose. Don’t be discouraged. Let me help you further.

SIZE. Get your ruler or tape measure and one of the disposable menstrual pads that you constantly use during your period.

Measure the disposable menstrual pads and write the dimensions. That will be one of your guides in choosing your washable menstrual pads. With the dimensions, you can already determine if your usual pads belong to the heavy flow/nighttime category or the medium flow/daytime one.

Now that you already know the size of your regular disposable pad, then choosing would be easier. But if you want your stash to have a variety of sizes, then I suggest you choose a multipack to have a try of the different sizes. Then once you already know which size you like best, you can get another pack of that size to complete your washable pad stash.

FABRIC. Another thing to consider in choosing is the fabric or material used for the top layer (the one that touches the intimate part) of the menstrual pads: cotton, charcoal bamboo, or microfleece. This is important because there are people who are allergic to certain kinds of fabrics.

Women who have very sensitive skin usually choose the ones with cotton tops. The only downside to ones with cotton tops is the color. It comes in the color white or dirty white and it stains easily. But even if some stains stay in the pads, they are still good to use after being washed.

Most women without allergy problems choose the ones with charcoal bamboo and microfleece tops because they’re more discreet when it comes to staining.

The Proper Usage Of Washable Menstrual Pads

Using washable or reusable menstrual pads is very easy. Just like the disposable pads, you lay it flat into the center of your underwear and bend the wings, just like the disposable, and snap the button under to hold it in place.

And to remove it, just unsnap the buttons and roll it smaller, and put it into the wetbag when out and about. And there will be no smell at all.

You will never hear the screeching sound when removing your menstrual pads and any more tiny parts of adhesives sticking into your underwear.

How To Wash Reusable Menstrual Pads

Washing the reusable menstrual pads is easy peasy:

1. Rinse them out with cold water until the water runs clear.

2. Soak them in cold water with mild detergent.

3. Rub and hang to air/sundry.

The reusable menstrual pads can also be washed in the washing machine, but they should not be ironed!

This is how I wash my washable pads:

After each use, I rinse the reusable pad with cold water until the water is clear, then I hang it in the laundry basket while waiting for laundry time. I just wash them together with dark-colored clothes. Then I hang them outside to air/sundry. I always make sure to dry them very well before keeping them in the closet.

Final Thoughts on The Best Washable Menstrual Pads

I am very happy and contented that I made the switch to washable menstrual pads in 2018. I only have positive things to say about it!

I want to encourage all women to give the washable menstrual pad a try because there’s really nothing to lose in giving it a try, but only gain! It’s good for our health, the environment, and our wallet.

And during this pandemic, I am no longer scared to run out of menstrual pads because I have washable menstrual pads in my closet. It’s one less worry and a small step towards our aim of being low waste and of simplifying.

Are you using washable menstrual pads already? If yes, how was the experience? Or are you still planning to do the switch? Feel free to share your comments below!

  1. I have been researching for reasons why to try reusable menstrual pads. I was convinced. I would like to try Teamoy Charcoal Bamboo. These are the reasons that convinced me.

They are environmentally friendly. The regular American woman will use 12,000 to 16,000 disposable pads, tampons, and panty-liners in her lifetime.

They are better than single-use pads.

    You’ll save money.

    You’ll support small businesses.

They are sanitary and won’t leak!

  2. You have a wonderful informative review. Now, during the pandemic, almost all of us have lost our income and it is extraordinary that there are tampons that can be washed and reused. It is an economy in our budget. Thank you for sharing the information with us. However, I think that the most suitable remain the cotton ones, even if they have a light color.

    1. Thank you for dropping by Carmen. Indeed, using reusables at home including washable menstrual pads is a great money saver especially in this time of pandemic.

  3. Hello Julai,

Nice post!! I am all for sustainability and helping environment and although I’ve made a lot of changes – I make my own cosmetics and have banned the usage of plastic disposable containers in most hygiene products – I have to admit that this is still to be done… I can’t argue with facts, women produce around 500g to 1 kg of waste due to menstruation every month. That’s millions of tons of plastic and non-biodegradable materials thrown away, most likely going to end up in our oceans…

I live in Portugal and I still need to find out how to purchase washable pads here, but your article made me really consider this switch. Thanks for posting!

  9. What a great idea about reusable menstrual pads. If 2020 has taught us anything, we have to reassess our way of life, which is one way to make a massive change and preserve the planet’s resources. I have bought some for my granddaughters as it is their world and their future.

    1. Indeed, 2020 has taught us a lot of things and one of them is to take care more of our planet. It also encourages me to go back to basics and think about how my ancestors live in the past, wihout all the plastics and single use items. It’s so thoughtful of you to think about your granddaughters.
