I just want to share with you my best oatmeal with banana recipe, a classic breakfast in our home!
I have been eating this oatmeal recipe for breakfast constantly since 2017 then #1 joined me when he was about 7 or 8 months old. And now, #2 has joined the club!
Best Oatmeal With Banana Recipe
- 1 cup dried oatmeal
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- water (enough to cover the oatmeal)
- a bit of yogurt or milk
- 2 bananas
Notes From Making This Classic Oatmeal Recipe
- This recipe can also be made without chia seeds. I have made it many times without them because I ran out of chia seeds or just completely forgot to add them.
- I use our homemade yogurt most of the time and only use milk when we ran out of yogurt.
- The riper the banana, the better. So, there’s no need to add additional sweetener like honey.
- This recipe might not be the best oatmeal recipe for you, but it is for me. What makes it best for me is because it’s so easy and quick to make, perfect for busy moms like me. And it’s super healthy, too. A complete win-win!

Oatmeal – is a cereal created from oat grains and is cut thinly so it can be cooked within a few minutes.
Oatmeal is a very nutritious food that contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is also high in fiber and protein.
Eating it regularly is said to help lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, reduce constipation, and help against skin irritation.

Chia seeds – I just learned about these super seeds few months before I got married in December of 2016. So, I started incorporating it into my breakfast in 2017.
Chia seeds are considered one of the healthiest foods because they’re loaded with nutrients that are very beneficial to the body and brain.

It was just recently that I researched if chia seeds are good for babies and small kids after a cousin asked me about it since my kids are eating them, too.
Thank God, chia seeds are safe for babies and small kids, so now I can continue giving them oatmeal with chia seeds without fear that it might harm them.
Banana – This is a no-brainer because I grew up knowing that banana is healthy!
It’s one of the most abundant fruits in our village and one of the most affordable (we had banana plants growing up), so we ate bananas constantly growing up.
There’s even a banana joke that I learned since childhood: that monkeys don’t have pimples because they eat bananas all the time. 🙂
Additional Toppings For Oatmeal With Banana Recipe
This oatmeal with banana is a very basic recipe. It’s like the oatmeal base recipe in our home, then I just add whatever toppings or ingredients that I feel like adding, depending on my body’s cravings.
I love adding nuts to this recipe, especially walnuts and hazelnuts.
Some other delicious and healthy toppings that can be added are pumpkin seeds, fried egg, avocado, berries, chocolate, pineapple, apple, peanut butter, and honey.
But really, the sky is the limit when it comes to additional toppings for this oatmeal with banana recipe! Just choose the healthiest ones!
Is It Ok To Eat Oatmeal Everyday?
It is definitely ok to eat oatmeal everyday, there is no harm in consuming it everyday.
However, you might get bored or tired if you consume it everyday.
Or if you really love oatmeal, you can eat it everyday for breakfast and just change the toppings everyday for variation.
I used to eat oatmeal almost everyday for breakfast before I did the 21-Day Fat Loss Challenge.
But during the challenge, I had to completely give up oatmeal.
Then after the challenge, I started eating oatmeal again, but this time no longer almost everyday. I learned to explore different breakfast options (I will share them with you on the next posts).
